Suggested Tour for Mountain-Bikers
Peitlerkofel Roundtrip
STARTING POINT: St. Peter – Pitzack (Pizzago)
DISTANCE: 59.8 km
ALTITUDE DIFFERENCE: 2,410 meters
BEST SEASON: mid-June till mid-October
HIGHEST POINT: Kreuzkofeljoch (2,344 meters above sea-level)
DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY: medium-light
DESCRIPTION: This route is perhaps one of the most beautiful – but with an altitude difference of 2,410 meters also one of the most difficult in South Tyrol. The 2001 Transalp Challenge followed in part these trails.
STARTING POINT: Villnöss
From Villnöss, hike around the Peitlerkofel and the Ruefen or the Aferer Geisler. After the first ascent, you will reach the Schlüter Hut and the Kreuzkofeljoch (2,344 meters above sea-level). Via the Peitler Meadows, you can reach Campill and St. Martin, where the second ascent begins. There's a short segment going downhill, and then you will reach (via Untermoi) the Würzjoch (2,007 meters above sea-level). The first part of this route is also an ideal means of getting from Brixen (Bressanone) via Villnöss to St. Vigil (San Vigilio) in the Gader Valley (Val Badia). Short hike around the Peitler: Taking the short-cut from Gomajoch, Fornella Alm, to Würzjoch shortens the tour to 41 km and 1,550 meters of difference in altitude.
